(Re)Becoming a Song Writer…

When I was in high school, and even in to college for a couple years, I really spent a lot of time writing songs.  I’d spend hours playing the same guitar parts over and over again until (what I liked to think was) creative genius hit and a song was produced.  I was in many incarnations of my first band (Petrified Motion/Ennui) and then was in a band for a short time called “Gone Tomorrow.”  I felt like GT actually had a few songs that were pretty good.  The musicians in that band were pretty good as well…between Tommy Mitchell on bass and Rob Girvin on lead vocals, it’s hard to go wrong.

Since then though I have really put song writing on the back burner.  It used to mean so much to me and for the last six or seven years I haven’t even attempted it for the most part.  I’ve written maybe two songs in six years.

Recently, I have decided to get back in to song writing.  I’ve never been much on vocals (though I’m singing a lot more these days), but I love writing music.  A few months ago I helped my friend E*Rock out on a couple songs on his album.

I had a lot of fun recording and loved hearing the finished product.  I also went back and listened to my friend Collin Obremski’sSecond Love” EP.  He’s a great song writer and incredible vocalist.

All of that kind of inspired me to get back at it.  I’ve been actually bringing my guitar home recently and spending a lot of time, on my days off, just playing guitar parts into the computer hoping creative genius strikes.  I have a few halfway decent parts worked up…nothing great so far.  It seems I’m going to have to wade through a lot of junk before I get back to the good stuff in my head again.

Anyway, check out the MY MUSIC page for some older music I’ve written and recorded.  Hopefully, in the coming months as I finish things I’ll post some new music.
