Bailey is in the seventh grade this year and went on our Middle School mission trip to Grand Rapids, MI and worked with G.R.A.S.P. (Grand Rapids Area Service Project). This was her first mission trip as a 6th grader. I asked Bailey to write a little something for my blog. She also spoke in our Youth Missions Weekends services this last weekend and asked if I’d post her written message. So here it is!
My name is Bailey Hogan and I participated in the Middle School mission trip to G.R.A.S.P. Ministries in Grand Rapids, MI. This was my first mission trip experience and, to be honest, I was really nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. Also, because it sounded like a lot of work and I didn’t know if it would be fun. My group built a playset for a single mom with four kids. When we started working I realized this trip wasn’t about me but about serving God and helping others. At the end of the week, we all reflected on one “God Moment” we had that week. Mine was when I saw the expression on the little girl’s face when she saw the completed playset because I think that was God’s way of telling me that going on the mission trip was the right thing. The opportunity to get closer to God and make new friends was a great experience. I look forward to many more mission trips and opportunities to use power tools!
Bailey is an awesome girl! I was so impressed with her on her first mission trip. She worked very hard with her group and did a great job helping put together the play set. I constantly heard all week what a great job she was doing! It was a pleasure having her on the trip, and I too look forward to her being on many more with us!
