In Their Own Words – Part II – By Ryan Hunt

This post is from Ryan Hunt.  Ryan is a high school graduate on his way to college in the fall.  This was his first trip with Phao Student Ministries as he went to Denver, CO with our high school group.  Here is Ryan’s story

The mission trip to Denver, CO was nothing short of life changing to me. I was hesitant when the idea of a ten-day mission trip was mentioned but regret nothing. I came out with a renewed faith and experienced some spiritual breakthroughs that I had always hoped I would. I continuously saw and heard remarkable things necessary to strengthening my faith in God whether it was the structured work of Youth Works or the talks we had with our Castleton group.

Prior to Colorado, I was the definition of a lukewarm Christian, and it always ate me up inside. I tried to maintain a relationship with God but never made it my number one priority. I am far from what anyone would consider perfect but because of this trip I am confident in myself as a Christian and what I can do with the help of the lord. I know that with god I am a better, stronger man.

Ryan is an amazing guy.  I didn’t know him all that well before this trip, but very quickly grew to love him.  He has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know.  The way he cares for everyone he comes in contact with is amazing to see.  He’s a big guy but just incredibly loving and gentle with those around him.  He worked with the Salvation Army helping with children all week.  Being over 6 feet tall it was no surprise that I heard story after story of Ryan letting all kinds of kids just climb all over him all day long.

Ryan came with two of his friends that he will also be going to college with in the fall.  I’m really looking forward to seeing what these three guys do when they get to college.  The potential they have to impact their campus for Christ is unending.  They are some of the most passionate and energetic guys I know, all with strong faith and different strengths.  I really believe if these guys stick together, focus on Christ, and keep each other accountable there is nothing they can’t do.

I really enjoyed getting to know Ryan better over the trip to Denver and very much look forward to a lasting friendship with him as he heads off to school in the fall.

Thanks to Ryan for taking the time to guest post on my blog!  I will be looking for a couple students to write about their experience on the Middle School mission trip to Grand Rapids, MI.  Look for those in the coming weeks as I line up students to do that for me.
